Activity Plan for the Un-Sung Heroes’ Competition for 2017 Trophy and Award

  • In each village and community, CRRD will organize; local dance and song stage competitions which shall be screen at different preliminary levels by committee panels leading up to the grand price trophy.
  • Persons, villages and or communities will identify and nominate key cultural, customary, traditional song(s), dance, and or the song writer(s)/composer(s) for the award after presenting leading information and evidence which shall be screened by a committee panel to justify the award.
  • The grand price trophy and award shall be widely publicized on all public media.
  • All the competition activities at all levels shall be recorded in audio, video and digitally stored and widely publicized on the public media by CRRD.
  • CRRD shall provide a relevant copy of the recorded media free of charge to each successful competitor to store on their local database/museum for their future generations.
  • The competition and awards are organized yearly by CRRD and finals staged at different locations.
  • The competition and awards is open to participants worldwide with no geographical boundaries. However, 80% of focus shall be on community ground/physical stage competitions.
  • The competition runs on physical stage, public media and online social media voting to screen winners.

Activity Management

  • The Community Radio for Development (CRRD) is the sole author and owner of its project programs and all sponsors are deemed to be beneficiary clients who are sponsoring the CRRD project programs as a means to use the CRRD as a media to promote their personality, product branding, marketability and or social status.
  • Individuals, organizations and commercial companies who wish to use the Unsung Heroes Competition events to advertise their products and image are invited to contact the CRRD strictly as no unauthorized advertisements shall be allowed on site.

Benefits of the Un-Sung Heroes project

  • Only current viable means to document and save the current fast dying African traditional knowledge and folklore, history, culture and custom for the future generations
  • A viable source and means to store and distribute cultural heritage to stakeholders
  • A means to revive community spirit, creativity, innovation, learning and leisure to communities which are currently observed to be traumatized and fast disintegrating.
  • A means to bring functional learning of culture knowledge exchange from the adult and elderly to the younger generation.
  • A way to reward and recognize local and forgotten heroes whose songs and dance steps had kept their communities alive during sorrows, wars, famine, bareness, harvest, progress and happy celebratory moments over history and the present.
  • A way to encourage and reward custodians and promoters of traditional knowledge and folklore who otherwise have been forgotten and ignored by the current society’s fast growth and shift to academic rewards and certification away from historic cultural and customary awards and recognition which has lead to current depreciation of social and moral standards of the younger generations.
  • A way to bring social cohesion and reconciliation to communities currently plaque by tribal, ideological, linguistic and political wars.
  • A way to bring back historical events which saw inter cultural ideas and knowledge exchange
  • A way to encourage sports, body exercise, good health, genetic advancement and intercultural marriages.
  • A way to encourage leisure and intercultural tourism
  • A way to give the opportunity to long forgotten remote rural communities and people to showcase their communities and market their products to the world for better livelihood.
  • An effective way to give opportunity and voice to the voice of the voiceless who were, are currently and have long been destitute, ignored, suppressed, exploited and imprisoned unjustly who are mostly women and children.
